MAY NEWSLETTER - EXFOLIATION

With summer approaching and our willingness to uncover our bodies, we all want to look our best with our skin in tip top condition after the harsh elements of winter.

Exfoliation is a cosmetic technique for removing dead skin and stimulating the growth of soft new skin. It exposes the healthy, supple skin underneath, giving the skin a fresh and rejuvenated appearance.

Although the skin exfoliates itself, this naturally occurring process can slow down as we age, but after a treatment, the pores can be thoroughly cleansed and the skin is more receptive to any skin care products that are applied. Mechanical exfoliants include salt and sugar body scrubs and polishes, micro-bead or grain scrubs, cream scrubs brushes and abrasive cloths, loofah or dry skin brushing.

Dry Skin Brushing

Dry skin brushing is a simple way to support your immune system and to stimulate your lymphatic system to naturally detoxify itself. The technique is great for skin exfoliation, eliminating toxins by keeping the pores open, and is useful in reducing cellulite.

You must use a natural bristle brush, long-handled or rounded, which doesn't scratch your skin but you are able to feel some friction.

For optimal results, your skin and brush should be dry. The entire body should be brushed, with the exception of the face and broken or cracked skin.

Start with the feet and gently brush towards the heart. Brush gently in circular motion around your abdomen [anti-clockwise] and breasts/chest area.

Repeat on a daily basis before showering.
