JUNE NEWSLETTER - HAPPY SOLES

If a lifetime – or even just the winter – has taken its toll on your feet, the thought of exposing them may give cause for concern. But it doesn’t take a great deal of fancy footwork to get your feet in tip-top shape for those summer sandals.

Do-it-yourself pedicure

  1. Remove any existing nail polish
  2. Soak feet for 5-10 minutes in a foot spa or bowl of warm water go which you have added three drops of peppermint essential oil (to revive feet) of three drops of lavender essential oil (to sooth them) or some already blended foot bath.
  3. Dry feet thoroughly with a towel including between the toes.
  4. Use foot file to buff away any dead skin or massage in foot scrub. Ensure this is washed off thoroughly afterwards.
  5. Trim nails straight across and not too short. File nails using long, smooth filing strokes so that they are very slightly rounded.
  6. Very gently push back cuticles with a hoof stick and massage in a very small amount of cuticle cream
  7. Massage feet with a rich foot cream or lotion.
  8. Before applying nail varnish, wipe moisturiser from nails with a polish remover which cuts through any greasy film or residue from foot soaks or creams. The polish will not adhere otherwise.
  9. Apply a base coat and two coats of polish allowing sufficient time in between. Finish with a quick drying top coat.

Foot Notes

For swollen feet, add a handful of Epsom salts to a bowl of warm water and fill a second bowl with cold water. Soak your feet alternately in each bowl for a couple of minutes. Dry thoroughly. Alternatively, use pre-blended foot bath suitable for purpose.
Don’t wear high heels for more than two or three hours daily. Vary heel heights and changing shoes halfway through the day will ease pressure.
According to the Chinese, cleansing the feet every night before bedtime is as important as washing the face. During the day, toxins are excreted through the feet which can be absorbed at night.
Going barefoot at home is blissful. Our feet breathe better, don’t get callouses and outside germs tracked into the house stay by the door making for a healthier home.
